Hotel Housekeeping

Hotel housekeeping is one of the most physically demanding jobs in the world today. As hotel guests will always seek well-maintained and spotless hotel rooms where they can relax, hotels put a heavy emphasis in keeping all rooms and hallways extra clean. In 15 to 30 minutes, 3 very significant housekeeping tasks must be done by the housekeeper. Hotel housekeeping includes tasks that require high organisational skills and housekeeping expertise as tasks need to be performed with perfection at a limited time. The most basic housekeeping task is bed making, which include changing of sheets and pillowcases. Standards vary in different hotels but typically, most hotels change sheets and pillowcases, as well as bathroom towels on a daily basis. The next task is tidying up the whole room, from sweeping off the carpet, to wiping off dust and water spots on furnishings, to organising a guest’s disordered stuff.

Another area in the hotel room that needs to be cleaned up extensively is the bathroom. Hotel housekeepers put cleaning agents on bathtubs, sinks, mirror, and flooring to get rid of stains and discolouration. Foul odour is eliminated too, to make the bathroom look and smell fresh so that the guest can relax well inside his/her hotel room. The last phase of hotel housekeeping is collection of trash. It is important to take out the guest’s trash on a daily basis because sometimes, guests throw away their leftovers on the trash. The smell often attracts rodents and other pests to feasts on the food thrown. Rats, for instance, drag the food out of the trash bin, creating a trail of garbage inside the guest’s room. Before the end of the day, it is indeed a standard operating procedure that a housekeeper must take out the garbage before the end of the day to prevent pests to make their mess inside the hotel room.
